1964 Lancia Flaminia

The Lancia Flaminia line, introduced in 1957, was the successor to the Aurelia, and it inherited the DeVirgilio-designed V-6 and rear-mounted transaxle. However, the sliding pillar front suspension was replaced by a more modern unequal-length double-wishbone setup. A range of body styles was offered, including the Pinin Farina-designed, factory-built Berlina. Pinin Farina also offered a coach-built Coupe, a Sport from Zagato, and the GT and GT Convertible from Touring finished in their patented Superleggera construction of aluminum panels over a frame of thin steel tubes. In 1963, in an effort to offer 2+2 seating, Touring introduced the GTL on a lengthened platform of the GT.

The Flaminia was a well-engineered vehicle that offered great handling and refinement. Its name was in keeping with the Lancia tradition of naming their models after ancient Roman roads. The Flaminia honored the path between Rome and Ariminum. There were also the first Lancia cars to have unibody (monocoque) construction, 5-speed transmission, a complete electrical system, and independent front suspension.

Production of the Flaminia lasted from 1957 to 1970, with 5,236 coupes produced. A total of 12,633 total Flaminias were built over the 13-year production lifespan.
