1988 Volkswagen Jetta

The Volkswagen Jetta was a versatile vehicle with several engines available. The base power plant was a four-cylinder 109 cubic-inch unit that offered 85 horsepower. The Jetta GLI models had a higher compression ratio and 105 horsepower. The Jetta GLI 16V featured the same engine found in the Scirocco 16V; it was an overhead-cam four-cylinder unit that offered 123 horsepower. It had a multi-point fuel injection system and five main bearings. A five-speed manual gearbox was standard with an automatic available for an additional cost. Disc brakes were in the front and drums were in the rear. Pricing began at $9,290 for the base model and rose to $13,725 for the GLI 16V model.
