The Triumph GT6 received new styling for the 1971 model year and became known as the Mark III. It was given smoother bumpers, recessed door handles, rear quarter windows that extended farther towards the rear, changes to the rear profile, and slightly flared wheel openings. The four-speed manual gearbox was available with optional overdrive. The button for the overdrive, which had been a switch on the dashboard, was not on the gearshift lever.Tougher restrictions on safety led to a decrease in horsepower during the 1970s. The GT3 MKIII came with an overhead-valve six-cylinder engine displacing 1998cc and offering nearly 80 horsepower. The torque was rated at just under 100 lbs-ft. Disc brakes were in the front, with drums in the rear.Production of the MK3 GT3 lasted from 1971 to 1973, with approximately 13,042 examples produced.
