CHEVROLET IMPALA: DELIVERS OUTSTANDING VALUE
Since the introduction of the original Chevrolet Impala in 1958, Impala has become the best-selling passenger car nameplate in Chevrolet history. In 2000, Impala was reborn as a car that lived up to its premier marquee and for 2001; Impala is better than ever. Chevrolet engineers and designers were very careful to follow the seemingly magical formula that had made previous Impalas such a great success. They knew that a car wearing the Impala badge had to offer contemporary looks, great performance, safety, plenty of room for passengers, good cargo space and more amenities than people would expect to get for the price. The most recent Impala delivers on all counts. 'The new Impala lives up to its performance heritage in a way that's right for today,' says Don Parkinson, Impala brand manager. 'We've taken a balanced approach that produces great powertrain performance with excellent fuel economy for a six-cylinder. It also provides a roomy, 6-passenger sedan that is agile and fun to drive while still providing a high level of comfort.'IMPALA FOR 2001
Two model choices are offered: Impala Sedan and Impala LS. Even though the latest Impala was just introduced last year, there are few changes for the 2001 model. The biggest news is the addition of the OnStar system as standard equipment on LS and available on the Base Impala. OnStar delivers a combination of safety and security benefits, like automatic air bag notification and emergency assistance with pinpoint location if the customer requires it. Three exterior colors are also introduced: Light Sandrift Metallic, White and Medium Bronzemist Metallic.PERFORMANCE
Impala's carefully engineered package of components delivers an impressive combination of solid vehicle structure, excellent engine power, good fuel efficiency and responsive ride and handling. Impala has a chassis and body architecture that provides remarkable rigidity and stiffness. These two ingredients are absolutely critical to build quality, and also reduce noise and provide great suspension tuning. A unique extruded aluminum engine cradle helps isolate engine noise and vibration, and the overall tautness of the Impala's body structure allows chassis components to be finely tuned to deliver superb ride and handling. Power is provided by two proven engines — the 3400 V6 and the award-winning 3800 V6. The 3400 V6 provides impressive horsepower and torque, while at the same time, delivering excellent fuel efficiency. The 3800 V6 is the uplevel engine of choice (standard on Impala LS, optional on Impala Sedan), putting out 200 hp and 225 lb-ft of torque. Two suspension systems provide ride and handling characteristics that first-time Impala drivers will appreciate. Both are 4-wheel independent systems with specially tuned MacPherson struts at all four corners. The Impala Sedan's Touring Suspension, with its variable-rate front coil springs and non-linear rear coil springs, produces an artful blend of smooth ride and handling. The Impala LS Sport Touring Suspension features the same basic components but includes different stabilizer bar calibrations to allow even more spirited driving — without giving up excellent ride quality.Impala's surprising agility is enabled primarily by three factors in addition to the suspension packages mentioned: variable-rate power rack-and-pinion steering, best-in-class 4-wheel disc power-assisted braking system and standard 16-inch wheel and tire packages that are designed specifically for each Impala model.
Impala offers the best of both worlds: full-size room and comfort combined with midsize agility and maneuverability. It can carry as many as six passengers, providing more than 104 cubic feet of passenger room and surrounding driver and passenger alike with an impressive array of standard features. The Impala Sedan provides thoughtful items such as auxiliary lighting in the glove box and trunk, electric rear window defogger, delayed exit/entry lighting, color-keyed electric outside rear view mirrors, intermittent variable-speed windshield wipers and more. When the Impala LS is selected, the list of standard features gets even longer. In addition to the 3.8L V6, Ride and Handling Suspension, sport aluminum wheels and bigger tires, the Impala LS includes items such as: passenger assist grips, a trunk cargo net, split-folding rear seat, cruise control, dual-zone climate controls, and an AM/FM stereo radio with Radio Data System (RDS) technology and speed-compensated volume control. Contributing to the design team for Impala was a group composed of people with disabilities called The Paragon Team, which is part of GM‘s Mobility Team. Through their input, changes made features easier and more ergonomic to operate. Specific items such as grab handles and the placement of ignition and hazard controls on the instrument panel are direct results of input from The Paragon Team.IMPALA SAFETY & SECÚRITY
Impala boasts more than 140 standard safety features. This combination of features helped Impala achieve a 5-star frontal impact test rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for both the driver and front passenger. In addition, Impala received 4 stars in side-impact testing for both front and rear passengers, and all Impala's meet 2003 Federal head impact criteria today. Standard security features include a passive theft-deterrent system and battery rundown protection, as well as engine coolant and oil level monitors. Daytime running lamps with automatic exterior lamp control are also standard on all models helping other drivers see Impala at any time of day.Optional on Impala Sedan and standard on Impala LS are items such as: driver's side-impact air bag, remote keyless entry, traction control, tire inflation monitoring system, and an antilock braking system. Other items available as options on all Impalas include a Driver Information Center that provides a compass, inside/outside air temperatures, a trip computer and Homelink™ system; and an electric sliding sunroof. And for added security all Impalas include a 'limp-home' mode, which allows the car to be driven to a nearby service station after a complete loss of coolant. IMPALA POLICE PACKAGE
The Chevrolet Caprice, Chevrolet's previous full-size car entry, was a huge hit with police agencies everywhere. Now, the new Impala Police Package is offered to fill the gap left when the Caprice was discontinued. Impala was designed at its inception to be a police car. Police agencies will get the 3800 V6 engine teamed with a heavy-duty 4-speed automatic suspension and gutsier 3.29:1 final drive ratio to boost the performance. Beefier suspension components like 34mm front and 17.9mm rear stabilizer bars, reinforced front struts and engine cradle, heavy-duty steel wheels and tires, and a special handling suspension make the Police Package more capable for the rigors of police use.
