Young Drivers Get Second Chance•Young Driver scheme returns to Silverstone Classic after sell-out debut

•Chance for budding petrol heads to get behind the wheel

•10-minute first drive taster sessions on offer to fuel future passions

•Off-track family fun entertainment for all ages at the Classic

•Media accreditation closes at midnight on Friday 19 July

As the world's biggest retro racing festival, the Silverstone Classic (26-28 July) may have one eye on the past but it also has one eye very much on the future with driving experiences available once again for those still too young to venture out onto the public roads.

Young Driver – the UK's largest under 17 driving lesson provider – made an award-winning debut at last year's Classic and, as a result, returns by popular demand in 2019. The initiative proved to be a complete sell-out on its introduction 12 months ago and was presented with the coveted Mervyn Garton Scarf & Goggles Award for the best off-track visitor attraction.

Building on that huge success, Young Driver will again be offering anyone aged between 10 and 16 years old (and at least 1.42 metres tall) a wonderful opportunity to get behind the wheel of a Vauxhall Corsa.

As an introductory offer – and to whet the appetites of budding petrol-heads – 10-minute taster sessions will be available between 09:00 and 18:00 on all three days of the festival.

Sessions again are priced at just £5 and, with so many families attending, demand will be high. So, to avoid the frustration of queuing at an event which has so much to offer both on and off the famous Grand Prix circuit, time slots can be booked in advance on each morning of the event.

The motorists of tomorrow will be taught to drive in a dual-controlled Corsa with a member of the Young Driver team. There are over 450 highly qualified ADIs across the UK in the Young Driver centres, all of whom have been DBS checked and individually trained in how to adapt the DVSA curriculum to be appropriate for younger children.

During their one-to-one tuition, rookie drivers will learn a whole host of skills including starting, driving, braking, corner control, changing gear, stopping and even reversing.

'With more and more families attending the Silverstone Classic every year, we are always eager to provide more interactive entertainment and opportunities to fuel the passions of our massively enthusiastic younger visitors,' explained Nick Wigley, Silverstone Classic CEO.

'Last year the Young Driver scheme was hugely popular and sold-out in record time each morning, so we strongly recommend all those wanting to get involved to arrive early and waste no time booking a slot for later in the day.'

Young Driver is just one of a feast of great activities and experiences available for those who may not be old enough to fully appreciate all the nostalgia on show at the Classic.

There are a range of different traditional fun fair rides including a big wheel, dodgems and a carousel as well as crazy golf, giant garden games plus coaching sessions for kids aged 5-15 in the Yokohama Chelsea Skills Zone, Yiannimize wrap attacks, and driving simulators… all provided free within the price of admission.

All tickets – which must be purchased in advance – also give access to the massive car club displays, stunt shows, the tyre-burning Streetcar Shootout, classic rally car demos, both racing paddocks, open trackside grandstands plus live music concerts on Friday and Saturday evening which this summer pay homage to the seminal Woodstock festival of 1969.

Adult tickets cost from just £45 and a wide range of child, young adult and family tickets are also available along with camping and hospitality options. Full details of all ticket prices are detailed on the silverstoneclassic.com website.
