TECHNOLOGY2022 Renault Trafic
The New Trafic features the latest infotainment technology as well as the most up-to-date Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) available across the Renault PRO+ line-up.

A significant new addition to the cabin is the new 8.0-inch EASY LINK display located on the dashboard, offering the latest in connectivity and usability to New Trafic Business+ customers.

The new touchscreen system supports full smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™, plus the full selection of DAB, Bluetooth and ÚSB connectivity options that are available on Business models.

In the Sport and Sport+, the EASY LINK system features satellite navigation with connected navigation services for three years, and includes Google search for places of interest, live traffic information and weather forecasts.

For optimum convenience, the Sport+ also offers keyless entry, while an optional wireless smartphone charger is available for the first time.

The latest generation of driver aids and safety systems are also available, including adaptive cruise control that safely maintains the distance to the car in front and an Active Emergency Braking System (AEBS) that provides braking force if a potential collision is detected ahead of the vehicle and the driver does not take action following visual and audible warnings.

Further safety features include Blind Spot Monitoring and Lane Departure Warning with Lane Keep Assist, Traffic Sign Recognition and automatic high and low beam for the LED headlights, which offer a 20 per cent increase in beam range over the previous generation. There's also an innovative new passenger airbag that has been optimised to protect two passengers occupying the two front passenger seats alongside the driver, while a parking assist system aids manoeuvres together with a reversing camera.

ÚK SPECIFICATIONS

2022 Renault Trafic
The New Trafic range starts with Business specification, available from £25,700 plus VAT. Power is provided by a choice of dCi 110, dCi 130 or dCi 150 engines, all matched to a six-speed manual transmission, across both SWB and LWB models. All models feature a generous list of standard equipment that includes full LED front headlights with C-shaped daytime running lights, 16-inch wheels, DAB radio with Bluetooth connectivity, ÚSB socket and Aux input, plus 3.5-inch monochrome TFT display in the instrument panel.
Added convenience comes from electric front windows and electrically adjustable and heated door mirrors, 12v power sockets in the interior and load area, plus remote central locking, while comfort is assured by new black 'Kompo' upholstery. The load area benefits from a full steel bulkhead and up to 18 anchorage points.

Standard safety features include cruise control with speed limiter, ESC (Electronic Stability Control) with Hill Start Assist and Grip Xtend, plus ABS with EBD (Electronic Brake force Distribution).

The Business+ trim, which starts at £28,000 plus VAT, adds even more refinement and connectivity with the inclusion of the EASY LINK display with 8-inch touchscreen, DAB radio, Bluetooth and ÚSB charging ports, smartphone integration with Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay™, and manual air conditioning. For those who need the interior to double as a workspace, there is also the Mobile Office that features a fold-down middle passenger seat with detachable A4 clipboard and laptop storage (not available on Crew Van), plus extra storage underneath the passenger bench seat.

Visually differentiating the Business+ from the entry-level Business specification are body-coloured door rails and rear taillight column with chrome grille. Safety and security are enhanced with the standard full steel bulkhead gaining a load-through facility (not available on Crew Vans), wide view mirror and rear parking sensors.

Business+ customers can opt for dCi 130 or dCi 150 engines with both mated to a six-speed manual gearbox as standard. The dCi 150 can also be ordered with a six-speed EDC automatic transmission. (posted on conceptcarz.com)

The New Trafic Sport – priced from £29,600 plus VAT – features an even more comprehensive standard specification. The EASY LINK system is enhanced with satellite navigation including three years' connected navigation services, while the instrument panel houses a larger 4.2-inch colour TFT driver information display.

Further strengthening the 'car-like' feel are an attractive premium dashboard and faux leather steering wheel, which are complemented by new Java upholstery and LED interior lighting. On the outside, the Sport lives up to its namesake with 17-inch alloy wheels, body-coloured front bumper and door mirrors, front fog lights and electric folding door mirrors. Safety is bolstered with the Active Emergency Braking System (AEBS) and Driver Attention Alert systems, plus automatic headlights and windscreen wipers.

The Sport can be ordered with a choice of dCi 130, dCi 150 or dCi 170 engines with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard or a six-speed EDC automatic on the two most powerful engines.

At the top of the range is the Sport+, which is available from £31,950 plus VAT. Building on the generous level of equipment found in the Sport, it adds a host of features that are more commonly found in premium passenger vehicles. Convenience and comfort are heightened through keyless entry and climate control, while its stylish exterior is even more appealing with metallic paint, 17-inch alloy wheels with black inserts, and body-coloured side mouldings. Aiding the driver are the additions of a rear parking camera, Lane Departure Warning and Traffic Sign Recognition. The Sport+ is powered by dCi 150 and dCi 170 engines, with both paired to either six-speed manual or six-speed EDC automatic transmissions.

MANÚFACTÚRING

2022 Renault Trafic
The New Renault Trafic is produced on a dedicated LCV line at Renault's Sandouville plant in Northern France.

Renault announced its plan to make Sandouville an LCV production centre in 2011. In preparation, 5,000 tonnes of cast iron were used to manufacture LCV production line tooling, equivalent to three-quarters of the weight of the Eiffel Tower's metal frame.

In body assembly, 20,000m² of space was freed up to install new tooling, including 187 new robots to make the 5,000 spot welds required to assemble the body.

In the paint shop, a complete transformation was necessary to adapt the processes to LCV dimensions. The anti-corrosion treatment tunnel was raised by 70cm and the paint booth extended by 12m.

Resources specific to LCVs were put in place: cradles and conveyor belts to help operators adopt the correct positioning in applying part of the 120m of mastic beading; and interior robots to apply mastic and paint the interior.

Site management placed particular emphasis on developing the skills of operators through extensive training, with 20 days of tuition for each operator prior to starting the job, and the appointment of quality and safety support for personnel with respect to the new installations.

Since 2014, the Sandouville plant has been the only factory to produce third generation Trafic for all markets around the world. In 2021, the plant celebrated its 57th anniversary, with more than eight million vehicles produced, including more than 800,000 Trafics. Since its launch in 1980, 250,000 Trafics have been sold in the ÚK.
