Q7 SUV And A5 Coupe Do Audi Proud At The 2019 What Car? Awards
Two more trophies confirmed for Audi in the 'industry Oscars'
•Luxury SUV of the Year is the seven-seat Audi Q7
•Five Best Buy commendations across the model range
•Recognition in both the Safety and Technology Awards
Tonight at London's Grosvenor Hotel Audi has continued its run of success in the annual What Car? Awards - arguably one of the motor industry's most respected yardsticks for product excellence – by securing the Luxury SUV of the Year and Coupe of the Year awards in the 2019 roll of honour. The Q7 SUV has won through in its category for the third successive year, while as Coupe of the Year the A5 has occupied a position that has been a traditional Audi stronghold thanks to the TT, which enjoyed a virtually unbroken reign for the past 16 years and is set to return to UK roads this month with more power and improved equipment.
Citing its all-round ability as a major plus point, the What Car? team heaped praise on the seven-seat Q7 'for simply outshining anything else in the luxury SUV class'. Singling out the 45 TDI quattro S line as their model of choice, the panel admired its plusher ride, 'great infotainment system that's easy to get along with' and remarkably hushed road manners. In fact, it's also deserving of special recognition for amassing more stars in the What Car? test criteria than any other car on sale today.
In Sport specification and matched to the 40 TFSI engine, the 'sleek, enjoyable to drive and surprisingly practical' Audi A5 took home its Coupé of the Year win by also blending competitive company car tax rates and strong resale values. Summing up the elegant two-door, What Car? hails it as 'offering everything a coupé buyer could possibly want'.
In addition to the two overall category wins, Audi also shone in the price point awards at both ends of the spectrum – the A1 took 'Best small car for more than £20,000', while the A8 L 50 TDI quattro won 'Best luxury car for more than £60,000'. A double victory was also achieved by the A3 in Cabriolet and Saloon form – 'Best convertible for £25,000 - £50,000' and 'Best executive car for £25,000 - £30,000' respectively. Last but by no means least, the perennially popular Q5 was voted 'Best large SUV for more than £35,000'.

Managing Director of Audi UK, Andrew Doyle commented: 'We never lose sight of the fact that the competition we face for these coveted awards is fierce, and increasingly so in the hotly contested SUV categories, so for the Q7 to keep its place at the top is a real endorsement of its merit. And for the A5 to pick up the baton from the TT after such an unparalleled run of success is hugely encouraging, particularly as our even more desirable new Black Edition and Vorsprung versions of this car have only just started to make their mark in the UK. A big thank you to the What Car? team on behalf of all at Audi for the great vote of confidence in these two important models.'
