2020 Mitsubishi ASX in detail:
The Mitsubishi ASX, also known in other markets as the Outlander Sport and RVR, is one of the most important models in the Mitsubishi range. Globally it's the brand's third best seller having accumulated 1.36 million sales around the world with Europe accounting for some 343,000 of those sales. The first-generation model went on sale in mid-2010. That figure represents 27% of the brand's European sales in that time. In the ÚK, some 30,858 units have been sold (to the end of May 2019), making it Mitsubishi Motors in the ÚK's 3rd best-selling passenger car with 22.6% of its overall car sales during the past nine years.

Refreshed Design:
The new front styling treatment on the 2020 Mitsubishi ASX benefits from a higher clamshell bonnet, squarer front wheel arches and a combination of substantial horizontal and vertical structures, including the distinctive new 'Dynamic Shield', bolder front grille and chunkier front skid plate. The square new indicator and LED front fog lamp units, located within the redesigned front bumper, contribute to the new and striking front-on appearance of the Mitsubishi ASX, while wing garnishes and new 18-inch alloy wheels enhance the more muscular profile of the new ASX.
The rear has also been refreshed with the same design logic. The ASX now uses LED rear lights featuring an elongated blade design that visually accentuates its broad and stable stance. The newly designed rear bumper features shaper lines, bolder detailing and, again, a larger and chunkier rear skid plate.
Enhanced Driving Experience:
For 2020 Mitsubishi Motors has also upgraded the ASX's powertrain, replacing the previous 1.6-litre petrol engine with a new 2.0-litre petrol power unit (4J11) which offers 30% more horsepower (150hp vs 115ps) and 27% more torque (195Nm vs 154Nm) which has a substantial impact on performance: Whereas the 1.6-litre ASX manual accelerated from 0-62mph in 12.2 seconds, the new 2.0 ASX manual reaches 62mph from a rest in 10.2 seconds and on to a top speed (where permitted) of 118mph, up from 114mph.
The four-wheel drive version, which is equipped with a CVT automatic transmission as standard, accelerates from 0-62mph in 12.2 seconds while overtaking acceleration (120–140km/h or 75-87mph, where permitted) is dispatched in just 7.2 seconds, compared to 13.7 seconds in the 2.0-litre manual and 17.0 seconds in the previous 1.6-litre manual. Mitsubishi Motors' INVECS-III CVT gearbox also incorporates a Sport mode, similar in concept to the system fitted in the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross, which employs a 'step-up' shifting control system to emulate the driving experience of a more traditional automatic transmission. Both drivetrains retain the front McPherson struts and a multilink rear arrangement which is optimised for comfort and refinement, while (braked) towing capacity is increased by 100Kg to 1,300Kg (braked) for both front- and four-wheel drive versions.
Four-Wheel Drive:
Mitsubishi Motors is renowned for its off-road expertise and following a reconfiguration of the range in 2018, four-wheel drive returns to the Mitsubishi ASX for the 2020 model meaning that every SÚV model in the Mitsubishi range is once again available with four-wheel drive. The system in the ASX offers a choice of three modes for various driving conditions with an electronically controlled centre differential to determine the optimum torque split to the front and rear, using sensor data on throttle position, vehicle speed, road conditions and driver inputs.
•2WD mode, torque is sent only to the front wheels for better fuel economy and agility.
•4WD AÚTO mode, torque is varied to maintain traction on loose surfaces or adverse on-road conditions, from 98% front/2% rear to 50% front/50% rear.
•4WD LOCK mode, approx. 1.5 times the torque of 4WD AÚTO mode is transferred to the rear wheels to improve traction on poor road surfaces and when the vehicle requires additional traction when off-road
Switching between modes requires only a turn of the 4WD selector button positioned prominently between the front seats.
Úpgraded interiors:
The interior of the 2020 model year Mitsubishi ASX has been upgraded with finer grade materials for both the cloth and leather-trimmed interiors. These are complemented by a black cloth headlining and small detail changes such as the new ergonomic air-conditioning and heater controls which are now finished in piano black and silver. The centre instrument panel also benefits from a piano black finish and now incorporates a new larger eight-inch Smartphone Link Display Audio (SDA) system. Increased from the previous seven-inch version, the new SDA system features smartphone connectivity including Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ and DAB radio. In Dynamic models, the SDA system will also feature built-in TomTom® navigation. (posted on conceptcarz.com)
Enhanced Safety:
The Mitsubishi ASX benefits from some of the company's latest safety technology to help prevent accidents from happening whenever possible and to mitigate the effects should a collision occur.
Standard on Dynamic models, a suite of safety systems (including Blind Spot Warning (BSW), Lane Change Assist and Rear Cross Traffic Alert) uses two radio wave radars located behind the rear bumper to warn the driver – via door mirror warning lights and audible alarms - of vehicles approaching from the rear and side during lane change manoeuvres and can also detect vehicles or pedestrians approaching the vehicle's blind spots while parking or reversing, again providing visual and audio alarms. The Mitsubishi ASX also has a comprehensive passive safety architecture based on Mitsubishi's RISE (Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution) impact safety body and seven SRS airbag arrangement.
The 2020 Mitsubishi ASX goes on sale in the ÚK in September 2019 with pricing to be announced closer to the ÚK launch date. It will be available in two trim levels – Design and Dynamic, with details of each outlined below.
