Mille Miglia – The Argentinian couple Tonconogy-Berisso triumphs• Great turnout and successful organization of the 2013 edition

Brescia, 19 May 2013 – The 31st reenactment of 'most beautiful race in the world', officially ended today, with the awards ceremony at the Grand Theatre. It was the first race organized by 1000 Miglia Srl

The crews in the theatre audience were refreshed after their arrival last night. Rain has become part of the Mille Miglia tradition but never before has it been so heavy as it was in this edition.

The Argentinian crew Juan Tonconogy e Guillermo Berisso won the Mille Miglia 2013 in their 1927 Bugatti T 40 with points totaling 35,417. Giordano Mozzi and Mark Gessler came in second in their 1933 Alfa Romeo Gran Sport and were only 576 points behind. Giovanni Moceri and Tiberio Cavalleri came in third in their 1933 Aston Martin Le Mans. It was the very same placement as the 2012 edition. Thanks to Tonconogy Argentina maintains its strong tradition of car racing victories around the world. Even last year's victory went to two Argentinian drivers. Scalise and Claramunt, drove the 1933 Alfa Romeo Gran Sport Hubs to victory, the same car entrusted to Mozzi-Gessler this year.

Of the 415 crews that took off, 340 successfully returned to Viale Venezia in Brescia. The remaining 75 cars were withdrawn from the race or dropped out.

Juan Tonconogy was very excited at the awards ceremony. He is the youngest winner of the new Mille Miglia races. It is now his fifth participation. 'I raced with the best co-pilot in the world and we are extremely satisfied with the outcome we reached, especially since this edition was packed with talented drivers and extremely competitive vehicles.' Adding more on the event in general: 'The Mille Miglia is a unique race of its kind, which requires great physical stamina and constant concentration, but it gives us emotions that are so difficult to verbalize and virtually impossible to forget. I wish to say goodbye to all of you, knowing we will see each other again next year. '

This edition of the Mille Miglia 2013, confirmed the capability of this event, like no other of its kind in the world, to stir the emotions of all the fans, young and old, inspired to come out and greet the cars in the race, their crews and the organizational support teams.

It was a great success even from an organizational point of view, and the crews from all over the world confirmed this. They arrived at the podium thoroughly satisfied with the perfect organization of this beautiful edition.

Chairman of the MM Organizing Committee, and President of 1000 Miglia Srl, Roberto Gaburri, said that Brescia was really being observed by the whole world 'While I was on my way to Brescia, the evening of several months ago when we presented the race came to mind. That evening took place in the same theatre as today's awards ceremony. Six months ago there were certainly a great deal of friends and fans present. On that day I said: Good Evening Brescia - Good Evening to the city of the Mille Miglia. Today, instead I really do need to say Good Morning to Europe, the Americas, Asia, and Africa. Today I want to say Hello to the whole world. And that's the truth. We've actually brought the whole world to Brescia. '

Satisfaction emerged from the words of Marco Makaus, 1000 Miglia Srl Chief Executive Board Member: 'Everyone has always said that for the Mille Miglia to be lucky, we need to get a bit of rain. So surely this has been an extra lucky edition! But jokes apart, it was really a phenomenal success. I spoke to many of the participants, even last night as they were arriving. After three grueling days, they were all ecstatic with an enormous smile on their faces. Even the ones who had cars issues, or other problems – they all came back to be a part of the great festivities. The magic of the Mille Miglia has been renewed. It doesn't depend on us though. It is actually in the Mille Miglia genes – which are made up of all the fans that take part along the way. The passage of the Red Arrow is a grand celebration for car enthusiasts, together with hundreds of communities who may not always have the chance to be united and feel a sense of belonging. This is a tradition that goes back for generations and brings all of these people together. They are inspired to line the streets and to cheer on and celebrate not only the passing cars but also themselves and their communities. It is a lovely and unique thing, which can only be created by the Mille Miglia. It is one of the most noteworthy ingredients of this race, which really makes it stand out from all the others.

For the Andrea Dalledonne, 1000 Miglia Srl Chief Executive Board Member, the recently concluded Mille Miglia represents a real sign of hope for Italy. 'In my opinion, these three days were absolutely beautiful. The inclement weather only served to make the event more heroic. Living this experience first hand was an extraordinary thing not only for the race itself but also for the thousands and thousands of people we met and the multitude of volunteers. The thing that moved me most was the spirit behind all of this, along with the organizational skills and enthusiasm that made this such a success. It's remarkable – all that was accomplished almost entirely by volunteers, which truly made it possible to lead our 500 vehicles across 1600 kilometers. This event served as an extraordinary role model for Italy, and a great demonstration of efficiency, skillfulness and enthusiasm. These are exactly the qualities that are unfortunately lacking at times in our country in recent years. '
