Vincent Bendix commissioned this automobile in 1932 as a showcase for Bendix automotive products. Bendix Corporation (now Honeywell International) engineers built the car entirely by hand, with some assistance from off-duty Studebaker employees. The car toured internationally and was never shown publicly in the United States.
Bendix created the name 'Steel Wheel Corporation' to serve as the car's make. Power is from an inline Continental 6-cylinder engine displacing 170 cubic inches and producing 86 horsepower.
The cost to construct this vehicle when new was $84,000.
The car includes an aerodynamic body design, air scoop hub caps for brake cooling, Bendix four-wheel open outboard brake drums for cooling, four-wheel Bendix hydraulic brakes, built-in ventilation system, and a Bendix Startix System. It has front-wheel drive, an electric vacuum gear shift, Bendix constant velocity universal joints, individual spring suspension, and a clock in the steering wheel.
