PVGP Welcomes The Historic Stock Car Racing Association To 2024 Historics At Pitt Race

The Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix (PVGP) is thrilled to share the exciting news that the Historic Stock Car Racing Association (HSCRA) will be joining the lineup of racing groups for this year's PVGP Historics at Pittsburgh International Race Complex. This marks a significant milestone as it will be the first time the HSCRA will race in the PVGP. Scheduled for July 26 to 28, 2024, the Historics promise to be a thrilling 3-day motorsport event.
The HSCRA, renowned for its commitment to preserving and celebrating the history of stock car racing, will bring a new dimension to the PVGP Historics. The group is open to all stock cars that ran in one of the major NASCAR series. There are different classes for each era and type of car—even trucks. Scott Dolfi, who happens to be the Operations Manager at Pittsburgh International Race Complex, plans to race his 2016 Chevy Silverado, which ran in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.
Carlus Gann of HSCRA enthusiastically stated, 'The HSCRA is anxious to bring NASCAR to Pittsburgh. We look forward to making this a regular stop on our tour. Western Pennsylvania has deep roots in racing, and building a world-class track at Pitt Race in Beaver County makes it a perfect fit.'
The most popular class is Generation 4 Cup cars built for the 1992-2007 seasons. During this era, teams built a few cars for the two road courses on the schedule.
Chris Evans of the HSCRA added, 'We are hoping for a full field of meticulously restored stock cars. Former NASCAR winners like Joe Nemechek and a competitive lineup of today's top historic stock car drivers will be on hand. Chris himself is deeply involved, not just as an owner but also as a racer of the remarkable Fusion showcased above, a vehicle that triumphed in the 2011 NASCAR Cup Race at Watkins Glen under the skillful drive of Marcos Ambrose.
ary Moore, a seasoned participant in over a dozen PVGP races, holds a deep admiration for the intricacies and challenges of the Pitt Race track. Among his prized possessions is this stunning 1969 Mercury Cyclone, victoriously driven by Cale Yarborough. He assures us that this year, he will be showcasing this beauty, exclaiming, 'It's quite the adventure behind the wheel!'
The HSCRA race group runs a practice session in the morning and a qualifying race in the afternoon on Friday, July 26. On Saturday, July 27, they have morning and afternoon sessions, which lead up to the finale the next day. After a short morning warm-up, the HSCRA will be one of the featured Sunday afternoon races, with all race classes recognized in the Winners Circle. Full Schedule

About the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix Founded in 1983, the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix Motorsport Festival features two weekends of racing action. The first weekend is the PVGP Historics at Pittsburgh International Race Complex. The second weekend is racing through a 2.33-mile road course set on the streets of Schenley Park. Between our race weekends, we stage car shows, parties, road rallies, and a black-tie formal. The PVGP is driven by 1,200 volunteers dedicated to staging the country's largest and longest-running vintage race event. It is also a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization with a mission to provide residential care, treatment and support for people with autism and intellectual/developmental disabilities – donating $6.7 million to charity.
