Taking place alongside the legendary Grand Prix de Monaco Historique, RM Sotheby's returns to the Grimaldi Forum on 10-11 May 2024 for an impressive two-day sale with a truly remarkable offering of automotive greats.
In addition to the previously announced Jody Scheckter Collection, the 20th Century Collection, and the final Porsche 917 to race at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, several more landmark collector cars have just been added to the sale.
One of the standout consignments is the 1958 Ferrari 250 GT Cabriolet Series I by Pinin Farina. An ultra-rare late 1950s Ferrari, this car is number 23 of just 40 examples produced and is desirably configured in one-off coachwork with covered headlamps and unique side vents. This gorgeous Cabriolet is presented with its Ferrari Classiche 'Red Book' certification as well as extensive research from marque expert Marcel Massini and French automotive historian Marc Rabineau. Beautifully refinished in its original colour combination of Bianco over Turchese leather interior, this elegant and rare 250-series Cabriolet presents a unique proposition for any collector looking to add a flagship Prancing Horse to their collection (Estimate €4,500,000 - €5,000,000 EUR).
This is followed by an equally special Italian beauty, the 1953 Siata 208S Spider by Motto. The first production example, and the first car to be fitted with aluminium coachwork, this is the third of 35 total examples. It was also first owned by the legendary Southern California-based importer, racing driver, and mechanic Ernie McAfee, who campaigned it in the 1953 Carrera Panamericana. More recently, it has undergone an extensively researched body-off restoration by the renowned Quality Cars in Italy, as well as a full rebuild of mechanical elements by Roberto Di Checchi of Motor Holding. This storied example is also highly eligible for historic competition and concours events including Pebble Beach and the Mille Miglia, and is now ready for its next custodian (Estimate €2,100,000 - €2,500,000 EUR).
Continuing the competitiontrend but from a more modern era is this 1996 Porsche 911 GT2. The last in a line of great air-cooled, turbocharged 911 models, and the hand-built 'holy grail' of Porsche's 993 generation, this example is presented in close to unused condition with just 48 kilometres on its odometer. Delivered new to Germany before heading to the United States, this beautiful 911 is finished in vibrant Speed Yellow. Offering the potential to be a potent track toy for its next owner, it is estimated to sell for between €1,300,000 - €1,700,000 EUR.
