1968 Dunn & Reath Dragster

This is Jim Dunn's car with the most remembered paint job. Dunn started racing in the early 1950s and is still racing today in NHRA as an independent Top Fuel Funny Car owner. It won the 1968 Irwindale Grand Prix, the 1969 Bakersfield March Meet and was the 1969 NHRA Division 7 Championship winner which covered California, Arizona, and Hawaii. The car was Joe and Delma Reath's favorite of a number of race cars they sponsored. The Reaths owned Reath Automotive in Long Beach. The 'Rainbow Car' is number six in the 1/24th diecast series 1320 'The Fuelers'. Jim Dunn's son, Mike, also a Hall of Fame driver and popular television announcer, said he drove the car back to the pits when he was twelve. A 1974 documentary, 'Funny Car Summer', chronicles a summer of racing in the life of Jim Dunn and his family.
