The Regal Car Company was founded in Detroit in the autumn of 1907. Paul Arthur was hired to design their car, and Fisher coachworks of Detroit was commissioned to build the bodies. These were medium-sized, medium-priced conventional automobiles that enjoyed considerable success. Part of this success was the result of a standard 30 horsepower model 'Plugger' which traveled from New York to San Francisco in the summer of 1909 and then cross the continent a further five times before finally returning home to Detroit in the summer of 1910 after a journey of 22,000 miles. Later that year, the Model N was introduced, and sales gradually increased to a peak of 8,227 cars in 1915.

This particular example is the only Regal Underslung Roadster to have survived for nearly 120 years in original working condition. It was delivered to its first owner in Hartford, Connecticut, where it stayed until the 1970s. Many details remain untouched, including its body panels with original leather straps, the tufted upholstery, and all the instruments and lamps. The engine compartment has never been modified, and its original number stenciling and all of its original ignition wiring are still present.
