1909 Pierce-Arrow Model 24 1909 Pierce-Arrow Model 24 1909 Pierce-Arrow Model 24 In 1903, the George N. Pierce Company introduced its first successful car, the Arrow, which carried four adults and was powered by a 15-horsepower DeDion engine. A Pierce-built engine followed in 1904 and the model name was changed to Great Arrow. In 1908, the company itself changed its name to Pierce-Arrow, and as the company grew so did its fame and fortune. President Taft ordered two Pierce-Arrows, a 6-cylinder brougham, and a landaulette, for the White House in 1909. Of the 100 Model 24 runabouts that were built, this car is one of only five that remain today. It is a 3-passenger, 4-cylinder 24 horsepower car with a cast aluminum body and aluminum fenders, making it light yet powerful. The Model 24 was first sold by George N. Pierce Company for $3,100. It was the smallest of the models available in 1909.
