1960 Renault Dauphine

The Renault Dauphine was produced from 1956 through 1967. They were a rear-engined economy 4-door sedan that were the successor to the Renault 4CV. During their production life span, over two million examples were built.

Renault unveiled their newest creation to the press through L'Auto Journal and L'Action Automobile et Touristique in November 1955, referring it by the unofficial model designation 'the 5CV.' The Dauphine debuted on March 6th of 1956 at Paris' Palais de Chaillot, two days before its official introduction at the 1956 Salon International de l'Auto in Geneva.

For 1960, the Dauphine was given a higher top-gear ratio, rear safety locks, hold-open catches on the door stay, and stainless steel trim moldings. The engine was an overhead valve four-cylinder engine displacing 51.5 cubic-inches and offering 32 (SAE) horsepower. A three-speed manual was standard along with hydraulic drum brakes. Standard equipment included a deluxe heater, a city horn, and a country horn. A sunroof was optional.
