1962 Devin MGA MKII

Always seeking more performance, one popular option for the MGA was the addition of a Judson supercharger, which increased the output to over 100 bhp. Another relatively common upgrade was the removal of the steel body with an aftermarket fiberglass unit. One of the most established manufacturers of such bodies in the United States was Devin Enterprises of El Monte, California, operated by Bill Devin.

This 1962 MGA MK II is a typical high-performance 'special' wearing Devin bodywork. Under the sculpted bonnet is an MGA 1622cc engine fitted with a Judson cylinder head and a vane-type supercharger. It is painted in Ferrari red and mounted on an MGA DeLuxe chassis.

Since new, the car has been given a complete restoration. In 2007, it joined the Gene Ponder Collection and has been used sparingly since that time.

The car has rebuilt MGA competition seats in red leather, full carpeting, and an engine-turned aluminum dash with a full set of Smiths gauges. There is a wooden aftermarket steering wheel, period-style Plexiglas windscreen, a quick-release gas cap, special engine cooling vents, and 72-spoke chrome wire wheels.

In 2011, the car was offered for sale at the RM Auction in Scottsdale, Arizona. It was estimated to sell for $40,000 - $60,000. As bidding came to a close, the car had been sold for the sum of $55,000 including the buyer's premium.
