FULL RALLY AMERICA ENTRY LIST REVEALED FOR CLIMB TO THE CLOUDS

June 20, 2014 by RALLY AMERICA

Williston, Vermont (June 20, 2014) -- The Subaru Mount Washington Hillclimb in Gorham, New Hampshire on June 26-29, also known as the 'Climb to the Clouds', is a new twist in the Rally America National Championship. Rally America has partnered with the Sports Car Club of New Hampshire to invite 15 national level rally teams to compete in a Hillclimb turned stage rally race on the famous 7.4 mile Mt. Washington Auto Road that was first opened in 1861. This year's Hillclimb will be round five of eight in the Rally America National Championship.

The Auto Road was last used in competition in 2011 when Subaru Rally Team USA's David Higgins demolished the previous Hillclimb record with a time of 6:11:54. This year Higgins returns as a Rally America competitor to attempt to add to his Rally America points standings lead. However, he will unlikely be able to compete for the overall Hillclimb record due to the fact his 2014 Subaru WRX STI will need to utilize a smaller restrictor per Rally America rules.

Subaru Rally Team USA's Travis Pastrana will also return to stage rally competition after skipping the previous round due a Nitro Circus scheduling conflict. Both Higgins and Pastrana have previous Hillclimb experience. Pastrana is credited with unofficially breaking the HillClimb record in September 2010 during a Red Bull Energy Drink promo before Higgins broke the record officially during competition a year later.

Higgins and Pastrana will field a number of challenges from other Open class rivals. FY Racing's Adam Yeoman from Houghton, Michigan is a constant contender who strung successful podium finishes at the beginning of the year, but crashed into a tree in the previous round. Yeoman is quickly repairing his car for Mt. Washington.

Local New England favorites, John Cassidy from Maine and Ryan Wilcox from Connecticut are throwing their hats into the Open Class battle as well. This will be Cassidy's second time competing at Mt. Washington as he competed in the rally class in 2011 - for Wilcox however, this will be his very first time racing on the Northeast's tallest peak.

Fresh from a Susquehannock Trail Performance Rally (STPR) Class win and a Headwaters Regional Rally victory, Nick Roberts from Minnesota will lead the Super Production (SP) Class charge against Martin Egan from Quincy, Massachusetts and Dillon Van Way from Carencro, Louisiana. Although it's Van Way who leads the SP Class standings going into Mt. Washington, there's no doubt that he and fellow SP competitor Nick Roberts will once again be locked in an intense battle for SP Class bragging rights following the Hillclimb.

The Two-Wheel (2WD) class will be the largest Rally America class at Mt. Washington with at least eight teams entered. Current 2WD points leader Andrew Comrie-Picard from Los Angeles, CA will be driving his Team O'Neil prepared Ford Fiesta ST and will head the charge at the Climb to the Clouds. Comrie-Picard recently began campaigning Rally America's first Ford Fiesta ST, however, it's Rookie of the Year candidate Troy Miller from Allegany, New York who carries over an STPR 2WD victory into Mt. Washington.

The Subaru Mt. Washington Hillclimb / Climb to the Clouds Rally begins with two morning stages on Friday, June 27th on either the lower or the upper half of the mountain depending on the weather. This will be followed by two morning stages on the alternate half of the mountain on Saturday, June 28th. The entire 7.4 mile Mt. Washington Auto Road will be closed all day on Sunday, June 29th for the 2014 Subaru Mt. Washington Hillclimb with opening ceremonies kicking off at 9:00am followed by the first of two full-course runs at 9:30am. Following a lunch break, the teams will return to the mountain in the afternoon for a second full-course run.
