SEAT takes centre stage at the Spirit of Montjuic

SEAT continues to be heavily involved in the world of classic cars, and from April 12 to 14 the Spanish brand's classic vehicles will be attending one of the most important events for classic car lovers and car enthusiasts in general – the Sprit of Montjuïc Catalunya Classic Revival – which will be held at the Circuit de Catalunya.

Just like last year, SEAT will be taking centre stage at the 2013 Spirit of Montjuïc. The brand will be exhibiting a major part of its history as Spain's main car manufacturer in the circuit's paddock, this time focusing on the seven anniversaries celebrated in 2013 – one for each decade of the brand's history. This means that legendary vehicles such as the elegant and luxurious SEAT 1400 – the company's first ever car – will be in attendance 60 years after the first unit was manufactured, alongside the SEAT 1500, which replaced the 1400 and is now celebrating its 50th anniversary, and the SEAT 132, launched 40 years ago and the first SEAT model with automatic transmission.

Four other very important models of the brand will also be on show in the SEAT tent. Each of them is celebrating an anniversary this year. For example, visitors will be able to see the SEAT Ronda, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2013. Launched back in 1983, the Ronda showcased SEAT's own unique personality as an independent car manufacturer.

The Seat Ibiza II will also be on show, with 2013 marking the 20th anniversary of the launch of the second generation of the brand's best-selling model. In 1993, the Ibiza II also became the first vehicle to be built at the SEAT plant in Martorell (Barcelona).

Visitors will also be able to check out the Cordoba II, the second generation of the Cordoba, launched 10 years ago with a more sporty and versatile design than the first generation model.

The 40th anniversary of the last ever SEAT 600 manufactured

The legendary SEAT 600 is worthy of special mention, with 2013 the 40th anniversary of the last vehicle rolling off the production line. The launch of the SEAT 600 in 1957 was undoubtedly the social phenomenon of the year and marked the start of widespread car ownership in Spain as well as the economic growth of the 1960s. Many middle class families fulfilled their dream of owning their own car for an approximate price of 70,000 pesetas. Production of the SEAT 600 increased six-fold by the following year. The SEAT 600 is undoubtedly a part of the country's automotive heritage and was still being manufactured in 1973. Over the years, close to 800,000 units were produced.

The SEAT exhibition of production models at the 2013 Spirit of Montjuïc Catalunya Classic Revival will be completed by the new Leon SC, Seat's most recent launch and the first three-door compact car produced by the Spanish brand. The new Leon SC perfectly encapsulates SEAT's design language, adding an extra dash of sportiness without reducing everyday functionality. The Leon SC is packed with cutting-edge technology and will be arriving at dealerships in May. The car will be manufactured at SEAT's Martorell plant and comes in a comprehensive range of engine sizes.

SEAT's most successful racing cars on show

Another highlight at the Circuit de Catalunya will be the racing cars that SEAT is bringing along to the 2013 Spirit of Montjuïc.

This year, the brand wants to share its circuit racing successes with racing enthusiasts, meaning that some of SEAT's classic car collection has been temporarily moved to Montmeló from its permanent home, unit A-122 in the Free Trade Zone. The collection comprises a series of vehicles that marked a 'before' and 'after' in the world of circuit racing.

Models such as the Leon TDI WTCC – a World Touring Car Championship winner in both 2008 and 2009 in the drivers' and manufacturers' categories, the Toledo WTCC – the model with which SEAT returned to the highest level of international circuit racing following its successful spell in rallies, the Toledo GT – Spanish champion in this category in 2003, the I and II versions of the Leon Supercopa – the first of which won the Barcelona 24 hour race, and the Ibiza SC Trophy – currently competing in various Spanish and European races, will most definitely be in attendance.

The crowning moment will be on the Saturday of the event when all these cars will be taking part in a colourful parade around the Circuit de Catalunya. This emotional, memory-packed moment will be further enhanced by the presence of renowned SEAT drivers such as Jordi Gené.
