1955 Kurtis 500KK

1955 Kurtis 500KK 1955 Kurtis 500KK 1955 Kurtis 500KK Frank Kurtis became legendary for his racing cars that raced at Indianapolis and his midget racers. He even began building sports cars which later evolved into the Muntz Road Jet. By the early 1950s, the majority of cars entered in the Indianapolis race were designed and built by Kurtis Kraft.

This car, called the Kurtis 500KK, is a very special and unique vehicle. It was built by Kurtis Kraft in 1955 and given a hand-formed fully-enveloping aluminum body by the renowned fabricator Jack Sutton of Hollywood, California.

The car was purchased by racer Jack Ensley from Indianapolis, who installed a Rochester fuel-injected 283 cubic-inch Corvette engine and mated it to a four-speed gearbox. In this configuration, Ensley planned to race it at the 1958 Road America 500, but it was not finished in time.

The car was later sold to former B-17 pilot Joseph Concannon who later sold it to Duke Knowlton. While in Knowlton's care, the car raced in the Midwest during the late 1950s and early 1960s.
