SILVERSTONE AUCTIONS RETURNS TO THE WORLD'S BIGGEST CLASSIC MOTOR RACING FESTIVAL• Competition Car Sale: Thursday 28th July, The Wing, Silverstone Circuit

• Classic Car Sale: Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st July, The Wing, Silverstone Circuit

Following another successful event in 2015, Silverstone Auctions is set to return to the home of British motorsport for three days of sales at the Silverstone Classic on Thursday 28th July, Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st July.

Last year's sale saw Silverstone Auctions host its first ever dedicated competition car sale, where more than £1million worth of racing cars were sold, as well as a two-day classic road car sale that saw total sales of more than £5million.

Once again Silverstone Auctions will open the world's biggest motor racing festival with a special racing car only sale on the evening of Thursday 28th July, before hosting a two-day classic road car sale on Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st July. The sales will include a diverse and stunning collection of classic cars, modern sports cars and supercars, automobillia and luxury watches.

Nick Whale, managing director, Silverstone Auctions, said: 'The Silverstone Classic Sale is one of our most exciting and high profile auctions in the calendar and I'm delighted that we're once again playing an important role in this amazing event which has continued to grow over the years.'

Such is the demand to sell cars at the prestigious event Silverstone Auctions has already consigned a number of special cars into the sales.

Just announced for the Competition Car Sale is a recently 'discovered' 1958 Lotus Elite race car owned and raced personally by the legendary jazz musician, Chris Barber. Lotus' first production car, this Elite is chassis number 9.

Found just a few months ago, the car is currently being expertly restored by Ant Anstead and Philip Glenister as a personal project and will be on display at the Silverstone Classic Media Day as a bare shell with a part-finished roll cage.

Featuring as part of the new series of Channel 4's 'For the Love of Cars', the car will be sold at the auction before going onto compete in an event at this year's festival immediately after.

Also in the sale, and being sold as a pair, are two legendary Ford Mondeo Super Tourers, two of just the original five built by Prodrive to contest the 2000 British Touring Car Championship, the golden era of the BTCC.

With factory drivers Alain Menu, Anthony Reid and Rickard Rydell, the fastest touring cars ever produced went on to dominate the championship completely, winning most of the rounds and finishing 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the 2000 BTCC final standings. At a supposed cost of £1m for each car, the team dominated like no other before or since. The two examples will be going under the hammer in the Competition Car Sale on Thursday 28th July.

Commenting on the cars already entered into the sale, Nick added: 'The provenance of these particular cars is a clear indication of the quality of motorcars that will be on offer in our auction this year.'

Quality entries are now being invited into the sale and so anyone interested in entering their car into the sale and benefitting from Silverstone Auctions world class expertise can call +44 (0)1926 691141 or email enqurires@silverstoneauctions.com.
