VAUXHALL TAKES TOKKO TO NEW HEIGHTS
October 1, 2015 by VauxhallA Vauxhall Movano van loan has helped local charity Tokko experience NCS for the first time. Tokko, a youth charity which focuses on helping young people to advance in life through support, recreation and leisure has loaned the van for the summer period in order to get their youth members on the move! The National Citizen Service combines 30 hours of planning and 30 hours of delivering service in the community. The Movano enabled the 14 young people and 3 youth workers to complete the programme in four weeks. It started with a week at Rock UK Northampton, an outdoor adventure camp, then onto Dell Farm for teambuilding skills. The team tried activities such as abseiling, raft building and high ropes. The third and fourth week were dedicated to their community project; with a week of planning and then the final week completing their project. For their community project, the young people helped the British Heart Foundation to redesign their kitchen by repainting and modernising it with the British Heart Foundation symbol. At Lamp, homeless charity for young people, they made a living area in one of their homes a much nicer space for the young people. They have also taken their volunteering a step further and decorated large jigsaw puzzle pieces for Age Concern Luton. Hazel Mellon, Tokko's Business Manager said, 'Tokko's first NCS programme has equipped young people with life skills and enabled them to make a difference to others in the local community. Without the support of Vauxhall kindly donating a Movano minibus for the whole summer period, we would not have been unable to provide such an experience. The month-long programme was also a chance for the young people to gain some self-confidence, as Tokko youth member and volunteer Sarah Frampton-Morgan explained, 'NCS practically changed my life! I suffer with anxiety and it helped me realise that I wasn't alone anymore. TOKKO has made the NCS programme amazing and the support from everyone was unbelievable.' Cherie Denton, Vauxhall Community Coordinator said, 'Vauxhall are proud sponsors of Tokko, It's a great place for young people, right in the town centre and so safe and great fun place to be. We are pleased that they packed in so many activities during the summer.'
