August 04, 2015 | HERNDON, Virginia -- Audi is one of the world's most-loved brands, when consumer passion is measured by positive mentions across social media, according to one ranking.

In a snapshot called the 'Top 100 Brand LoveList 2015,' an analysis of consumer preferences as measured by their mentions in social media posts, Audi was the highest-ranked automotive brand in the world and the No. 15 overall brand. Analytics firm NetBase released the ranking earlier this year in a 38-page report.

Audi also was the highest-ranked brand owned by a German company.

NetBase, which crunches data and helps brands with their online strategies, analyzed nearly 24 million social media posts from 84 countries that included favorable mentions in English, from February 2014 through February 2015. Then NetBase ranked the brands by volume of mentions. They searched for words including adore, amaze, awesome, beautiful, world class and many others.

The auto industry took second place in the number of different brands mentioned, with 13. The only larger category was retailers, which accounted for about one-third of the brands on the list.
