This 1963 Ford Seattle-ITE XXI was a 3/8 scale concept that was very bold, dramatic, futuristic, and inspiring for its era. Designed by Alex Tremulis, it utilized advanced technology including a trip computer, navigation and traffic information systems, fuel cell power, and steer-by-wire technology. There were a total of six wheels with a total of four in the front (two on each side). The four wheels in front were steer-able and turn in tandem, helping enhance tracking, traction, and braking efficiency. The cockpit was nearly enclosed in glass. In the rear, there were four large exhaust pipes that appeared more to be fuselage for an aircraft than exhaust outlets. Many of the ideas introduced on this small scale concept have become realities, including the interchangeable bodies, interactive computer navigation, mapping, and auto information systems, interchangeable fuel cell power units, and four driving and steering wheels. This vehicle was showcased at the 1963 Worlds Fair in Seattle.
