New Volkswagen Service Plans Look To The Past… And Future•Improved service plan offering now includes electric vehicles

•Maximum age of car has increased to reflect classic interest

•Extended service plans allow owners to schedule four at once

Milton Keynes – Volkswagen has improved its service plan offerings, with the introduction of the first electric car plans leading a suite of enhancements that include an increase in the maximum age of cars eligible for servicing, and the option of customers purchasing their car's next four services at once.

Leading the charge in the service plan additions is the introduction of the first ever electric vehicle service plans offered by Volkswagen, available on the zero tailpipe-emission e-up! and e-Golf models.

The introduction of these services, which are required after two years for electric vehicles before transitioning to an annual check-up, follow the qualification of the first highly-specialised Volkswagen High Voltage Experts (HVEs) in late 2018 – another signpost that mainstream electric vehicles from Volkswagen are not just imminent, but have already arrived. However, Volkswagen technicians at any location across the Retailer Network are qualified to carry out services on electric vehicles.

An electric vehicle service differs from that of an internal combustion-engined car, with checks of the high-voltage charging cable, battery and other EV-specific components. This is in addition to typical braking system, lighting and tyre condition inspections, while brake fluid and pollen filter changes are also included in the price.

Volkswagen is also extending the age limit on dealer servicing to vehicles up to 20-years old, a significant increase on the previous eight-year age limit. The move will please many owners of older vehicles who wish to maintain their cars' full Volkswagen service histories, and reinforces Volkswagen's faith in the mechanical quality of its vehicles.

The extension means that later versions of the Lupo, third-generation Polo, Golf Mk4, fifth-generation Passat, and first-generation Touareg qualify, along with other models across the last 20 years of the brand's history. The only limit on the car's suitability is mileage of under 250,000 miles.

This extension also reflects the growing number of Volkswagens considered modern classics, with the new catchment now including popular choices, for example, performance Golfs from the fourth-generation onwards, such as the R32 (2003), as well as the technically intriguing Passat W8 (2002) and many more.

Currently customers have the option of buying two services upfront, as well as splitting the cost of a service plan into a monthly fee. Further strengthening the convenience aspect of Volkswagen's service plan catalogue is the new possibility for Volkswagen owners to purchase and book their cars' next four check-ups at once, bringing additional flexibility and freedom to the service plan aspect of car ownership.

Kevin Rendell, Head of Service and Parts Operations at Volkswagen UK, said: 'This series of updates to our service plan catalogue reflects the changing needs of drivers, as cutting-edge, zero-emission electric cars like the e-Golf are now included, as well as older vehicles up to 20 years old. It's a real commitment to the satisfaction of Volkswagen owners, whether they are driving family workhorses, or cherished modern classics.

'Offering the peace of mind and quality of care that a full dealer service provides on cars which can now date back as early as 1999 shows that we value drivers of older vehicles, and demonstrates the breadth of expertise of our service technicians at every Retailer. The flexibility of booking up to four years' worth of services at once is also a sign of our commitment to customers' needs.'
