42 cars on Brembo components at Daytona

DETROIT, (January 25, 2019) - Brembo brake components will be on 42 of 47 cars, 89 percent of the field, for the 57th running of the Rolex 24 Hour At Daytona this weekend at Daytona International Speedway.

In 2018, Brembo shod competitors in IMSA's WeatherTech Championship won all four classes at the twice-around-the clock classic held at the World Center of Racing. Once again the championship winning Cadillac DPi-V.R prototypes, this year six of them, two Acuras and one Nissan and the entire LMP2 field will be on the grid with Brembo brake calipers. In GTLM the defending race winning Ford GT cars will run Brembo as well as 23 GTD class cars, including last year's winning Lamborghini Huracan.

Daytona is considered to be one of the most demanding races of the season as far as brakes are concerned. The main braking zones are into the Bus Stop Chicane on the back stretch and the almost 200 mph to 80 mph brake zone into Turn 1 to enter the infield.

Brembo Rolex 24 Brake Notes:

•Drivers will use the brakes five times a lap (not including pit stops), that's 3,295 times the driver is hitting the brakes at the 2.5-mile, 12-turn Daytona modified oval road course.

•The performance will be stable throughout the entire race, from pressing the brakes on lap 2 to lap 650.

•Teams perform a brake change on one axle in about a minute, replacing two discs and 4 pads. The brake components can reach extremely hot temperatures, make each brake change a challenge for the mechanics. DPi and LMP2 teams will not typically make brake changes.

•Teams don't normally change front and rear at the same time. It depends on how the race is going.

•Rotor temps can spike as high as 1500ºF and will glow at night.

•Rotor temperatures average between 700 to 1500ºF (roughly) for the entire race.
