Milton Keynes, 1 April 2019: ŠKODA is coming to the rescue of forgetful drivers across the UK thanks to the introduction of a new ProjectaPal lighting system. This all-new Simply Clever feature means that birthdays, wedding anniversaries and even bin days need never to be missed again. ProjectaPal builds on the functionality of the boarding spots fitted as standard across the Karoq range from SE and above, and allows owners to set reminders that are clearly visible when the front doors are opened at the start and end of every journey.

Drivers can either link the system to their smartphone diaries via the infotainment system, or key in a specific reminder on the touchscreen. The projected image is crisp and bright thanks to the use of high-intensity LED beams, meaning that even the most distracted of owners will spot the reminder as they leave their car.

Explaining the development process, ŠKODA Head of infotainment development, Dr Ivor Tüchskreen said: 'Every week, I forget to put my bins out for recycling. Before ProjectaPal, I would tape a note on the interior door handle, but it would always fall off. Then I thought 'why don't I ask my Karoq to remind me instead?' – and that's when we started designing ProjectaPal.'

And for drivers who are comfortably on top of their social diaries, ProjectaPal has another unique feature. Thanks to ŠKODA's acclaimed connectivity, the system can project the image of a loved one onto the road surface below. Accessed via the infotainment system, drivers can select any image they like from a linked smartphone. ProjectaPal then creates a preview of the projected image on the infotainment screen. Once approved, the system projects the image onto the road surface below the door, providing an instant reminder of a loved one, pet or favourite holiday memory.

'ProjectaPal also allows owners to see a familiar face whenever they enter or leave their ŠKODA.' Explains Tüchskreen. 'Maybe you are missing someone you really love like your dog, cat, your favourite football player or your wife. With ProjectaPal, you can see their faces the moment you open the door.'
